among the sector\u2019s leading players and institutions as well as with the fields of education, journalism, museums, and the arts in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Quebec\/Canada XR<\/em><\/strong>, an initiative by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xnquebec.co\/en\/\">Xn Qu\u00e9bec<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/phi-centre.com\/en\/\">Phi Centre<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutek.org\/en\/\">MUTEK<\/a>, Festival du nouveau cin\u00e9ma (<a href=\"https:\/\/nouveaucinema.ca\/en\/\">FNC<\/a>), and Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montr\u00e9al (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ridm.ca\/en\">RIDM<\/a>), has received support from the <a href=\"https:\/\/canadacouncil.ca\/\">Canada Council for the Arts<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcc.gouv.qc.ca\/\">government of Quebec<\/a>.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" data-block-type=\"core\">\n<p><em>Quebec\/Canada XR<\/em> is pleased to join forces with AFXR (a French-language association of XR producers resulting from the merger of <a href=\"http:\/\/uni-xr.org\/\">UNI-XR<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af-rv.fr\/\">AFRV<\/a> in France).<br><br>This collaboration is designed to publicize emerging practices and encourage information-sharing about them so as to create a viable international community consisting of professionals dedicated to promoting this sector of activity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Right from its inception, <em>Quebec\/Canada XR<\/em> has identified the various issues of interest to creators, producers, and broadcasters.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" data-block-type=\"core\">With respect to the development of XR works:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" data-block-type=\"core\">\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The need for an XR-specific creative methodology separate from the traditional tools of film production <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The need for artists to collaborate with XR professionals from the earliest project stage so as to build more robust projects that meet market needs more effectively <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The scarcity of financial resources despite multiple institutions\u2019 stated policy of giving the digital arts a greater role to play<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">Competition among creators, which stems directly from the scarcity of financial resources and which causes rifts within the XR industry, thereby hindering collaboration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">Ethical questions with regard to artists\u2019 responsibilities, potential medical and psychological consequences, and other issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" data-block-type=\"core\">With respect to production and funding:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" data-block-type=\"core\">\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The challenge of technology developments, which often occur at breakneck speed, thereby potentially making XR projects \u2013 which may require many years of development \u2013 obsolete<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The difficulty for small independent producers to carve out their place alongside industry giants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The issue of funding strategies: Should producers prioritize private or public funding? How can they adjust to the constant change in funding sources? Should they build alliances with larger production companies?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" data-block-type=\"core\">With respect to distribution, licencing, and presentation:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" data-block-type=\"core\">\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The shortage of information on distribution opportunities on digital platforms, in museums, in galleries, and at festivals is a challenge that most creators and producers face<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">Insufficient knowledge of licences, copyrights, and operating rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">Challenges connected to creating viable business plans in a sector that is still under development and in which ROI is difficult to forecast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The issue of insufficient visibility for XR and the limited number of viewers who have access to these kinds of works<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The high costs of exhibiting XR works<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The challenge that technology developments pose to distribution efforts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li data-block-type=\"core\">The issues relating to protecting private data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" data-block-type=\"core\">\n<p><strong><em>Quebec\/Canada XR<\/em><\/strong> will work toward answering these questions.<br><br>Our proposals include: creating a methodology charter for the development of XR works; organizing events to bring industry professionals together and encourage collaboration; defining an ethics program; implementing a monitoring program to collect and centralize information about the industry; providing training; developing clear evaluation tools; establishing advocacy groups to defend the sector\u2019s interests; and creating a matrix to collect information about every XR experience to ascertain what works and what doesn\u2019t in this particular sector.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading forum-title noirxr alignfull large-xr\" id=\"launch\" data-block-type=\"core\">Launch<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" data-block-type=\"core\">About our recent launch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On May 17, 2019, the <strong>Qu\u00e9bec\/Canada XR<\/strong> initiative was launched at the Cannes Festival, at Cannes XR Hub, with the Honourable Nathalie Roy, the Quebec Minister of Culture and Communications and Minister responsible for the French Language as well as some top Quebec talent, including Felix &amp; Paul Studios, Dpt.
