Want to join Xn Québec? Our members tell you why you should!
October 28, 2024What do the members of Xn Québec have in common?
They are studios that use technology as a raw material to create techno-creative projects that combine several artistic disciplines. Their productions often go beyond the screen and traditional distribution models.
In short, what they have in common is that they are out of the ordinary.
And it’s precisely because they don’t fit into traditional artistic categories that these innovative creators have come together to form the Association des Producteurs d’Expériences Numériques.
So why join Xn Québec? Our members have their say!

Networking isn’t just for computers
As Francis Gélinas of couleur.tv explains, Xn Québec initiates “a lot of networking and information days”. For mirari‘s Thomas Payette, these networking activities are essential. He notes that Xn Québec sees itself as a group where we can “forge links between each of the companies, between creators and producers, so that we can grow and move forward”.
To this end, the association plans a multitude of events, enabling studios to expand their network and develop their business. According to Transversal‘s Hamie Robitaille, “it’s the best place to meet the different players in the industry”.

Spotlighting local talent
Every spring, Xn Québec organizes the prestigious PRIX NUMIX competition. “It’s an important event for peer recognition and the promotion of Quebec works,” observes Hamie Robitaille. What’s more, as Thomas Payette reminds us, this event “allows the general public to discover what we do”.
Xn Québec also makes sure that Quebec creators get noticed in other markets. This is why the NUMIX LAB was created. My first NUMIX LAB will always be engraved in my heart,” says Philippe Belhumeur of Studio Normal. I met people who were open to making the world of digital experience evolve.”
In the same vein, let’s highlight the activities of L’Effet Québec. Initiated by Xn Québec, this hub of export expertise aims to provide producers of digital experiences with the tools they need to market their products outside the province. To this end, market analyses, case studies and strategic intelligence are published on its website. “ The study on immersive experiences carried out with Habo gave us a better understanding of our industry,” confirms Hamie Robitaille.
L’Effet Québec also coordinates delegations of Quebec creators who take part in various international events and festivals, such as South by Southwest in Austin, the KIKK festival in Namur and Sunny Side of the Doc in La Rochelle, to name but a few.

Common challenges
Xn Québec also helps the community to recognize its needs, define its priorities and take concrete action to achieve its objectives.
We were approached by Xn Québec to present an immersive show we had created for a museum in Shawinigan,” recalls Philippe Belhumeur. That’s when I really discovered that we weren’t the only ones facing challenges, and that together we’d be stronger. When I came back the next day, we were members.
Thomas Payette agrees. “Xn Québec is a community that’s dynamic, that wants to move forward, that wants to build, but intelligently. We ask ourselves a lot of questions.
The Xn Summit aims to do just that. At this latest event, we were able to set aside some time to question ourselves together about the issues of tomorrow,” explains Hamie Robitaille. Various players in the field (both emerging and established) laid the foundations on which our industry will be able to project itself into the future.”

Information and training
Xn Québec also strives to keep its members informed of everything that’s happening in the world of creative and cultural industries. To this end, we have developed active and relevant communications tools.
“I read all your newsletters carefully – I don’t read all the newsletters I receive! – and I find all the information I need,” says Francis Gélinas.
Training is also at the heart of Xn Québec’s member services. Thanks to partnerships with Synthèse, INIS and the École des dirigeants HEC Montréal, Xn members have access to high-quality courses at very reasonable prices.
Join the Xn Québec community
In a nutshell, Thomas Payette describes the group as “a tightly woven community that is strong, that is close-knit, that is eager to collaborate and that is eager to grow together.”
So, should you join Xn Québec?
“No, because I want all the benefits of Xn for myself!” jokes Francis Gélinas, ”Become a member and come shake my hand. I want to get to know you and, who knows, maybe we’ll do some great things together in the near future!” he adds.
The final word goes to Thomas Payette. The creative director and co-founder of mirari would like to invite young creators and studios to join the association of digital experience producers. “The beauty of Xn Québec is that the group is constantly evolving. Don’t be afraid of being an imposter. On the contrary, I think there’s room for a multitude of different ways of doing things.”
