LAUNCH OF THE 10TH EDITION OF THE NUMIX AWARDS

January 15, 2019

Today marks the launch of the entry period for the NUMIX AWARDS contest, which rewards digital production excellence in Quebec. The awards gala will be held on May 9. It is organised by Xn Quebec, the province’s digital experiences producers’ association, and is undoubtedly the leading annual gathering for Quebec’s digital creativity industry. From now until February 17, producers may enter their projects in the contest.  New this year: participants benefit from a 20% discount on the usual fee for entries submitted no later than January 27.

With this 10th edition, the contest continues to evolve and now offers 26 prizes in 7 major categories, which represent the industry’s leading areas of activity: Communication and Marketing, Linear Web Production, Interactive or Immersive Production, Cultural Production, Production from a Digital Personality, Most Successful Production outside Quebec, and Gaming Production. The last of these prizes is awarded in collaboration with Quebec’s independent video-game developers’ guild. A judging panel consisting of 30 or so industry professionals will assess the various projects submitted to the contest.

TWO NEW AWARDS FOR MOST SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION OUTSIDE QUEBEC AND BEST PRODUCTION FROM A DIGITAL PERSONALITY

It is no secret that Quebec’s digital productions are gaining increasing recognition abroad. In accordance with this growing success, the NUMIX AWARDS contest, in collaboration with Export Québec, is introducing a new prize to reward the most successful production outside Quebec.

It is worth recalling that the NUMIX AWARDS contest was among the first in Quebec to include a YouTuber prize category. In efforts to update this category, the NUMIX AWARDS team consulted extensively with multiple industry players. As part of this 10th edition, the team has launched a prize for Best Production from a Digital Personality, which rewards both production excellence and candidates’ popularity. This prize will be attributed based both on an assessment of production quality and content originality by a judging panel consisting of industry professionals (50%) and – a first for the NUMIX AWARDS – a public vote (50%). Accordingly, the public will be invited to vote online for its favourite production from February 25 to March 10, 2019.

STEVE COUTURE WILL PRESIDE OVER THE JUDGING PANEL

Steve Couture will preside over the judging panel for the 10th edition of the NUMIX AWARDS. Steve is the co-founder of Frima, a video-game company where he was CEO for more than 13 years. This 400-strong Quebec City-based company, which has more 600 video games and projects to its name, is renowned as Canada’s leading independent video-game studio. In addition, Frima has worked on multiple animated films and series, including IMAX productions and a few Hollywood blockbusters. Since leaving Frima in 2017, Steve has taken part in creating and implementing many youth brands all around the world and has been serving as chairman of the board  of directors at PIXEL Québec and co-president of Go-Élan, the designer and producer of the new interactive gaming module, UGO.

“There are many studios, producers, and companies based beyond Greater Montreal that are active in our sector. I’ve led many businesses and projects outside Montreal, and that is why I plan to foster participation from all over Quebec and increasingly position the NUMIX AWARDS as a contest that encompasses Quebec as a whole.”
– Steve Couture, president of the NUMIX AWARDS judging panel.
